Frequently Asked Questions

Relate counselling is open to everyone. Whether you are married, living together, in a same-sex relationship, separated, divorced or single, our confidential service can help you deal with your relationship difficulties.

Our relationship counsellors are specially trained and experienced in working with individuals and couples. This means you can come to see us about any subject on your own or with a partner or ex-partner.

We aim to provide a caring and effective service in a safe environment. We are particularly mindful of the need for confidentiality, and will always take note of any instruction you may have about how we are to contact you. We will not reveal confidential information about you to a third party unless someone’s personal safety is at risk. Click here to see our Confidentially Policy.

We require an initial deposit of £30 when you first contact the centre and we book your assessment appointment. Each counselling session costs Relate £50 to provide and we will ask you to pay as much as you can towards this. The £30 deposit will be deducted from the cost of your assessment appointment.

We are a not-for-profit service and we do offer subsidised sessions. The rate you pay can be negotiated with your counsellor if you cannot pay the full cost for each session. Once you start ongoing counselling, we operate a strict prepayment system – this helps us manage missed and cancelled appointments more effectively.

No problem, we know that coming for counselling can be a daunting experience. We want you to be well informed and feel comfortable, so please feel free to contact us by telephone or email and we will do our best to answer your queries.
